Projects Board Volunteer Positions
Auction

The Country Day Auction is a biennial event involving volunteers in all aspects of planning. Volunteer opportunities include: acquisitions, underwriting, clerical support, graphic design, decorations/display, check-in/check-out, set up, and distribution.
Big Saturday
Chaired by Amy Fonville and Megan Klein

April 13, 2019. Big Saturday is Country Day's annual fun-filled spring festival. This is one of our largest fundraisers and many volunteers of various talents are needed. Volunteer opportunities include: Art POP UP Shop, bake sale, talent show, Run For Good, decorations, prizes, and publicity. Many volunteers are needed for one-hour shifts the day of the event.
Car Raffle
Chaired by Cissy Brantley and Amanda Stauffer

The Car Raffle offers a range of tasks with varying levels of involvement and flexibility. Volunteers are needed to help tally sales and distribute ticket packets and incentives. Each of the elements is easily manageable so you can start small and increase your involvement as your schedule allows. Car Raffle duties are concentrated in March and April.
Holiday Breakfast

December 21, 2018. A Country Day tradition for more than 50 years, the Holiday Breakfast brings parents, faculty, students, alumni, and staff together in celebration of the holiday season. This committee is responsible for selecting a theme, decorating, and coordinating the event logistics (setup, communication with food services, publicity, and cleanup). Volunteers should be available to set up the day before and help the morning of the breakfast.
Mini Directory
Chaired by Lynn Hughes

This committee markets the very popular Mini Directory, the abridged, pocket-sized version of the Country Day Parents' Handbook. Committee members help with sales at all the major back-to-school events in August and September. This is a fun opportunity to see everyone after summer break.

Parent Global Ambassadors Volunteer Positions
Parent Global Ambassadors

Parent Global Ambassadors are parent volunteers from Lower, Middle, and Upper School who help support the Office of International Studies in a variety of ways such as assisting with field trips for visiting students, helping to find host families for visiting teachers and students, and assembling orientation packets. Volunteers will also help with other international activities as they arise.

Lower School Volunteer Positions
1st-4th Morning Carpool

What a great way to start your day! Volunteers supervise the arrival of children in carpool and open car doors in front of the Claudia Belk Building. Volunteers work two mornings a month from 7:40-8:05 am. This is a wonderful volunteer position for both moms and dads.
Classroom Parents Grades 2-4

Two parents from each class serve as primary liaisons between the parents and teachers throughout the school year. Primary responsibilities include coordinating classroom functions/activities with the teachers, securing parent volunteers for classroom functions/activities, and communicating information to parents via monthly e-mails. Additional duties include presenting at and assisting with Parents' Night in the fall, summarizing and distributing volunteer responsibilities, reminding volunteers of their commitments, managing the Big Saturday class booth shift schedule, collecting and distributing class roster with appropriate contact information, coordinating the celebration of teachers' birthdays, delivering holiday and year-end teacher gifts, and helping with any other parental classroom involvement as needed by the teachers or the Lower School Board.

Hospitality
Chaired by Laura Philipson and Callie Kelly

This committee has two chairs and approximately 50 volunteers. They provide snacks in the teachers' lounge each month, coordinate Lunches-to-Go for all Lower School teachers and staff, as well as organize the Lower School Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in May. In addition, the committee provides doughnuts and notes of appreciation for Plant Operations and Cafeteria staff twice a year. With such a large committee, volunteers typically provide snacks only a few times during the year, assist with Lunches-to-Go, and help with the menu, decor, and serving of the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. There is usually at least one meeting during the year to provide information to committee members.
JK/K Morning Carpool

Library
Chaired by Heather Lyle

Volunteers assist the librarians with circulation, shelving books, and other tasks throughout the year by working twice a month for approximately one and a half to two hours. Volunteer hours are scheduled in three shifts. The shifts run from 10:00-11:30 am, 11:30 am-1:00 pm, and 1:00-2:50 pm. Volunteers also assist with the Fall Book Fair which is one of the highlights of the Lower School year. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a regular volunteer commitment on an ongoing basis. Time in the library allows for interaction with both teachers and students during their school day. Please note that while this is a really enjoyable position, it is also a serious commitment to a regular time slot.
Lower School Family Picnic

April 24, 2019. This fun event for Lower School families is held annually in the spring. Committee responsibilities include help with setup, short assigned shifts during the picnic, and cleanup.
Parent Education Representative

Volunteers act as liaisons between the Parent Education co-chairs and parents in each classroom. Duties include organizing and hosting your classroom parent social in the fall and helping with the Before the Bell coffee and the Lower School coffees and lunches.
Parent Education Special Events

Volunteers help plan, organize, and staff special events that provide fellowship opportunities for families and encourage networking among parents of Lower School children. Events include: Lemonade Party, Halloween Parade, Before the Bell coffees, and Lower School coffees and lunches. Volunteers may also help plan and organize other educational programs for parents on issues relevant to their Lower School children.

Volunteers provide snacks for the teachers' lounge each month. They also host the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon and provide refreshments for receptions following school contests.
Media Center

Under the direction of the librarians, volunteers work a monthly two-hour shift from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and have the opportunity to assist with the Spring Book Fair. Duties include reshelving books, filing monthly periodicals, covering new editions, and assisting in general operations of the library. One volunteer assigned per shift at the same time/same day each month. With a limited number of shifts, volunteers are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parent Education

This committee will organize and host approximately five morning programs for Middle School parents, as well as one father/student activity in November. These events provide excellent opportunities for parents to connect with other parents and faculty members to discuss issues related to adolescent development. Light refreshments served during the events will be arranged by the committee.
Used Book Sale
Chaired by Lori Goodman

Volunteers work at the Used Book Sale to help collect, evaluate, and organize used books for sales in early June and August. Collection is two days, and the sale follows on a separate day. Volunteers can buy used books prior to the general sale.

Grade 10 Support
Chaired by Kara Campbell

Volunteers assist Grade Parent with class projects, fundraisers, and special snacks during the Tenth-Grade Retreat, Spirit Week, Valentines Day and exams. This committee also works in cooperation with the Hospitality committee, as needed, on faculty/staff appreciation events and Parents' Night.
Grade 11 Support

Volunteers assist Grade Parent with class projects, fundraisers, and special snacks during the Junior Retreat, Spirit Week, Valentines Day and exams. This committee also works in cooperation with the Hospitality committee, as needed, on faculty/staff appreciation events and Parents' Night.
Grade 12 Support

Volunteers assist Grade Parents with the following events for seniors: rafting trip, first day of school celebration, twice-yearly birthday celebrations, Senior Parent Social, Community Service Day, Spirit Week, Halloween party, holiday tree ornaments, Holiday Tree Dedication party, December exam snacks, Valentine's treats, DVD photography and production and Casino Night. Each event has its own set of co-chairs.
Grade 9 Support

Volunteers assist Grade Parent with class projects, fundraisers, and special snacks during the Ninth-Grade Retreat, Spirit Week, Valentines Day and exams. This committee also works in cooperation with the Hospitality committee, as needed, on faculty/staff appreciation events and Parents' Night.
Hospitality

Volunteers provide food and beverages for the monthly snacks for faculty and staff and for Parents' Night in September. They also provide food and help host the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the spring.
Media Center
Chaired by Kerry Lauer

Volunteers work in the Media Center with the librarians once or twice a month for two-hour shifts (11 am-1 pm) throughout the year. They assist with shelving, checking books, and other jobs with which the librarians may need help. This is a fun job that provides lots of student contact.
Office Aides
Chaired by Paula Brown

Volunteers (predominately senior parents) work in the Upper School office for 45 minutes during lunch on one assigned day per month (for example, first Mondays). Volunteers answer phones, assist students and parents, and perform other small jobs, such as mailings, when needed.
Parent Education
Chaired by Courtney Eliasek

This committee works to enhance fellowship, share information, and improve communication among Upper School parents. Volunteers help set up and host Parent Education grade-level meetings.
Used Book Sale
Chaired by Karen Weatherington

August 7, 2018. Used textbooks, which are needed for the following school year, are collected from students in the spring and sold to other students in early August. The Parents' Association receives half of the proceeds of any book sold, and students' accounts are credited by the school for the other half. Volunteer opportunities in the spring include helping collect, evaluate, and organize used books and reselling them to students and parents in early August. Volunteers have the benefit of buying used books at a presale, prior to the general sale.

Boosters Club Volunteer Positions
Annual Boosters Golf Outing

This annual event is one of Boosters largest fundraisers. Volunteers are needed to help build teams for the event, solicit sponsors, marketing, and check-in.
BucSports Magazine and Historian
Chaired by Ellie and Buckley Gardner, Catherine and Biff Powell

Publication of BucSports to highlight sports teams in Middle and Upper School. Volunteers work with school staff in gathering photos for printers. Volunteers needed to solicit advertisements for the publication. Graphic design experience helpful.
Coaches' Appreciation Dinner

A special night to thank and recognize the coaching staff. Volunteers needed with event setup, decorations, and check-in table. Volunteers also help to gather raffle items given to coaches.
Fall Concessions

Volunteers hang student art in various areas on campus throughout the year. Volunteers should be flexible with scheduling.
MS Arts

Volunteers help support the art, music, and drama departments as needed throughout the year including preparing and hanging selected art for display, helping with auditions and plays, helping with the winter and spring concerts, and with the Fine Arts Night in April.
Soup Bowls for Hospice Project
Chaired by Debbie Porter

Volunteers help with this annual event as needed. Duties include checking in participants, helping with supplies, and demonstrating the bowl-making process, no experience necessary. Volunteers also help with preparing the clay before the event as well as glazing and packing the finished bowls for donation to Soup on Sunday, a fundraising event for Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte.

Volunteers assist the Fine Arts department throughout the year and help with Upper School One Act Plays, musicals, and drama performances as well as Upper School Arts Fest. Duties may include planning cast parties, helping with program design, ticket sales, concessions, and back stage assistance.

Volunteers assist the Fine Arts department throughout the year. Opportunities include fitting choir dresses and tuxedoes, organizing a Halloween party for the band and chamber choir, and planning receptions for the semi-annual concerts in December and May.
